Bhagirathi- Alaknanda- Ganga Rafting Expedition- 4 days

Description

This expedition takes you through Bhagirathi, Alaknanda and Ganga rivers. The expedition starts from Koteshwar Dam on Bhagirathi River which originates from Gaumukh and is one the source streams of Ganga. Adventure aficionados have excellent opportunity of an enthralling river rafting experience through the challenging rapids into the magnificent gorge this turbulent and gushing river cuts into. You exit the gorge at Devprayag at the confluence of the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi which meet together to form the Ganga.

Alaknanda originates from Bhagirathi Kharak and Satopant glaciers. In this expedition we raft through the relatively easier rapids of the river as it enters its last canyon before merging with Bhagirathi to form the mighty Ganga. The river Ganga is famous for its big grade 3 and 4 rapids, however it starts easy from Devprayag with a few Grade 1 and 2 rapids till it reaches Kudiyala.

Itinerary

Start early morning from Rishikesh and drive for around 100km to Koteshwar dam to begin our expedition on the Bhagirathi River. After a comprehensive safety briefing we head out on the water to paddle through grade3+/4 rapids such as Shoot, Elephant’s Rock, Confluence Rapid, and more than 20 other small and big rapids until we reach Devprayag. After a thrilling white water trip in the river, we drive to our campsite at Baghwan on the bank of Alaknanda.

After packing up the camp early morning and a comprehensive safety briefing, we head out on the water again. Our trip starts on the Alaknanda River as it enters the last canyon stretch with grade 2and 3 rapids such as ‘Baghwan’s Pillow’, ‘The Deadly Duos’ and more until we reach Devprayag.

This will be an easy day with small rapids giving you enough opportunities to relax, soak in the sun, bodysurf, and bird-watch. Raft time is approximately 5 hrs to Kaudiyala where we set up camp for the night on a beach.

We pack up the camp early morning and set on to raft down adrenaline pumping rapids like ‘Daniel’s Dip’, ‘The Wall’, ‘Three Blind Mice’, ‘Crossfire’, ‘Bodysurfing’, ‘Roller Coaster’, ‘Golf Course’ besides many smaller ones. The trip ends late afternoon just before the famous Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh.
